In the first place, this year’s importance has been in engaging new partners that significantly supported and developed the project. The four companies already involved, Bayer, IBM, ABB and Sedlecký kaolin, have been joined by ŠKODA AUTO, a. s., the biggest Czech car manufacturer. Thanks to this influential company in the car industry, the unique educational module Education for Elementary School Teachers has been created, thus extending our project portfolio by focusing on another target group. 31 teachers from Mladá Boleslav region attended the module meetings, from which 18 gained the certificates for passing the whole module. The Education for Elementary School Teachers module has also been accredited by Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
The partnership and patronage of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Academy of Sciences is of great importance for keeping the professional level of the project. Thanks to these respected institutions, project participants can visit specialised workplaces – laboratories, where they can develop their scientific knowledge in practice.
For career consulting, which is also part of the project, professional recruitment company Assessment Systems International (ASI) has been engaged. ASI consultants attended the individual blocks of the project, discussed the career topics with participants and provided them HR managers‘ perspective.
Besides the two patronages mentioned above, another one has been received, of the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic. There also was a novelty in the project, a competition in science popularization for students in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The competition was patronised by Bayer company. The winning teams gained financial prizes (total value over 70.000 CZK/ 2.500 EUR) to realize their competition projects. In summary, 401 pupils and students and 48 teachers from 31 schools have joined the project this year.
We can proudly say that 86% of students considered the project „excellent“ or „very good“ and 46% of students considered that their participation in the project has influenced their opinion or changed their views on education and career in respective fields. Providing general insights into the world of work and acquiring the skills useful when looking for a job has been considered the main contribution of the project by 100% of school representatives.
Therefore, the project fulfils its purpose and presents natural and technical sciences as interesting and perspective future career option to young people and their teachers. The purpose of this report is to summarize the course of the third year as well as the evaluation obtained from the participating students, schools and companies in evaluation questionnaires. The project programme was evaluated after its closure at the end of the school year 2013/2014.
